Claiming a Device
If you bought a SiliconWit device, it already works out of the box - it’s registered and sending data before it ever reaches you. Claiming it just links it to your account, in seconds.
From the Dashboard
Section titled “From the Dashboard”- Go to Add Device → I bought a SiliconWit device
- Enter the claim code printed on the device’s packaging or label (format
SW-XXXX-XXXX) - Click Look Up Device - you’ll see the device’s name and category to confirm it’s the right one
- Click Claim This Device
If you’re not signed in yet, you’ll be asked to sign in or create an account first - the device stays reserved under its claim code until you do.
Scanning the QR Code
Section titled “Scanning the QR Code”Every device also ships with a QR code alongside its claim code. Point your phone or tablet’s built-in camera app at it (no need to open SiliconWit.io first) - it opens the claim page directly with the device already looked up, so you can skip typing the code by hand.
After Claiming
Section titled “After Claiming”Once claimed, the device is yours:
- It moves from admin-provisioned/unclaimed into your account, with all the data it’s already sent preserved
- You can rename it, adjust its fields and commands, and set up alerts like any other device
- Its Device ID and Access Token are available from its Settings tab if you ever need them
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| ”Invalid claim code” | Double-check the code from the label - it’s case-insensitive but every character matters |
| ”This device has already been claimed” | Someone (possibly you, on another account) already claimed it. Contact support if that wasn’t you |
| Lost the claim code/label | Contact support with your order details |
Next Steps
Section titled “Next Steps”- Dashboard Overview - Get oriented after claiming your first device
- Dashboard Alerts - Set up threshold alerts
- Field Schema - Understand the data your device sends
